India mourns the loss of five Army personnel who were killed in a terrorist ambush in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, underscoring heightened tensions in the region due to increased terror activities.
The deadly attack occurred in Kathua’s remote Machedi area, where terrorists targeted an Army patrol party with grenades and gunfire. The assault resulted in the tragic deaths of five soldiers, including a Junior Commissioned Officer, while several others sustained injuries. The terrorists fled into the forest following the ambush, prompting a rigorous search operation by security forces to apprehend them.
Expressing profound grief over the incident, Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane emphasized that the sacrifice of the brave soldiers would not go unanswered. “Their selfless service to the nation will always be remembered, and India will defeat the evil forces behind the attack,” he stated, echoing sentiments shared by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Defence Minister Singh conveyed deep anguish at the loss, extending heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers. “The Nation stands firm with them in this difficult time,” he affirmed, highlighting ongoing counter-terror operations aimed at restoring peace and order in the region. He also wished a swift recovery to those injured in what he termed a “dastardly terror attack.”
The terrorist outfit responsible for the assault, Kashmir Tigers, claimed allegiance to the banned Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), marking a troubling escalation in militant activities within the Union Territory. This attack comes amid a recent surge in terror incidents targeting security personnel, underscoring the volatile security situation prevailing in the area.
