The Maharashtra Police’s Cyber Cell has summoned YouTubers Ranveer Allahbadia and Ashish Chanchlani, along with actor Rakhi Sawant, in connection with an ongoing investigation linked to controversial remarks made on Samay Raina’s YouTube show India’s Got Latent.
Summons and Legal Action
Mr. Allahbadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, and Mr. Chanchlani have been asked to appear before the authorities on February 24. Meanwhile, Ms. Sawant, who was a guest on one of the show’s episodes, has been summoned for questioning on February 27.
The latest summons also include Samay Raina, the host of the show, who has been asked to appear at the earliest, though no specific date has been mentioned.
FIRs and Supreme Court’s Reaction
Several FIRs were registered against Ranveer Allahbadia over his controversial comments on parents and sex during the YouTube show. The Supreme Court recently granted him protection from arrest and additional FIRs but criticized his remarks, stating that they reflected the “dirt in his mind” that he had “vomited out.”
Mr. Chanchlani, who previously appeared before Khar Police to record his statement, also filed a plea to quash or transfer to Mumbai an FIR registered in Guwahati over allegations of promoting obscenity in an online show. The Supreme Court has sought responses from the Maharashtra and Assam governments regarding his case. The Gauhati High Court recently granted Mr. Chanchlani interim bail and directed him to present himself before the investigating officer within 10 days.
Ongoing Investigation
The summons indicate that the Cyber Cell is expanding its investigation into the matter. Authorities are likely to question the individuals regarding their involvement in the show and the impact of their statements.
