A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable has been arrested and suspended after allegedly slapping Kangana Ranaut, the newly-elected Mandi MP and actor, at the Chandigarh airport. The incident, which occurred as Ranaut was on her way to board a flight to Delhi, has sparked controversy and garnered widespread attention.
The accused constable, identified as Kulwinder Kaur, reportedly acted in response to an old statement made by Ranaut regarding farmers. Ranaut’s comment, in which she mentioned farmers being paid a nominal amount, was seen as disrespectful by Kaur, whose mother was part of the farmers’ protest against the Centre’s farm laws.
Video footage from the airport shows Ranaut being escorted to a security checkpoint, where the altercation took place. Although the video does not capture the alleged slap, Ranaut later shared a video message recounting the incident and expressing concerns about rising terrorism in Punjab.
This incident is not the first time Ranaut has faced backlash over her comments on farmers’ protests. In the past, she has been criticized for labeling protestors as “terrorists” and making divisive statements regarding the agitation.
The farmers’ protest, which gained international attention, was a significant issue in India during 2020 and 2021. Ranaut’s outspoken views on the protests have stirred controversy and led to confrontations, such as her convoy being blocked by agitators in Chandigarh during her campaign.
