PM Modi Becomes Most Followed Global Leader on X with 100 Million Followers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a remarkable milestone by becoming the most followed global leader on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), amassing over 100 million followers as of Sunday. This achievement places him significantly ahead of other prominent world leaders, such as US President Joe Biden, who has 38.1 million followers, Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed with 11.2 million followers, and Pope Francis, who has 18.5 million followers.

In a post celebrating this milestone, PM Modi expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm for the platform: “A hundred million on @X! Happy to be on this vibrant medium and cherish the discussion, debate, insights, people’s blessings, constructive criticism and more. Looking forward to an equally engaging time in the future as well.”

Within India, PM Modi’s follower count surpasses that of other major Indian politicians. For instance, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has 26.4 million followers, while Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has 27.5 million followers. PM Modi’s popularity is also evident in comparison with other opposition leaders, such as Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav with 19.9 million followers, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee with 7.4 million followers, Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Lalu Prasad, and NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar with 2.9 million followers each.

PM Modi’s widespread influence on X has made him a sought-after figure for engagement by other global leaders, as interacting with him can significantly boost their own follower base, engagements, views, and reposts. His massive popularity was notably observed during his visits to Italy and Austria.

Interestingly, PM Modi’s follower count on X also exceeds that of numerous global sporting icons and celebrities. He has more followers than cricket star Virat Kohli, who has 64.1 million followers, Brazilian footballer Neymar Jr with 63.6 million, and US basketball player LeBron James with 52.9 million followers. Additionally, he surpasses celebrities like Taylor Swift with 95.3 million followers, Lady Gaga with 83.1 million, and Kim Kardashian with 75.2 million.

Over the past three years, PM Modi’s X handle has witnessed a staggering growth of approximately 30 million users. He also has a substantial presence on other social media platforms, with nearly 25 million subscribers on YouTube and 91 million followers on Instagram.

Having joined X in 2009, PM Modi has utilized the platform for constructive engagement, following numerous common citizens, interacting with them, replying to their messages, and notably, never blocking anyone. He has always used the platform organically, without resorting to paid promotions or bots, thereby maintaining an authentic connection with his followers.
