Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a three-day trip to the United States, met with President Joe Biden in his hometown of Wilmington ahead of the upcoming Quad Leaders’ Summit. During their meeting, PM Modi presented Biden with an exquisite antique silver hand-engraved train model, alongside a traditional Kashmiri pashmina shawl for First Lady Jill Biden.
The intricately crafted train model, made of 92.5% silver, features the inscriptions “DELHI-DELAWARE” on the sides of the main carriage and “INDIAN RAILWAYS” on the engine, reflecting the design commonly seen on Indian passenger trains. This unique gift showcases the rich heritage of silver craftsmanship from Maharashtra, known for its artisanship.
Upon arriving at Biden’s residence in Greenville, the two leaders exchanged warm greetings, with Biden welcoming Modi with a hug and holding his hand as they entered for their discussions. The meeting, which lasted over an hour, focused on various regional and global issues.
In a post on X, PM Modi expressed gratitude for Biden’s hospitality and described their discussions as “extremely fruitful.” He emphasized the strengthening ties between the two nations and highlighted the partnership’s significance.
President Biden echoed Modi’s sentiments, stating that the U.S.-India partnership is “stronger, closer, and more dynamic than any time in history.” He remarked on their ability to discover new avenues for cooperation each time they meet.
