Maldives President Visits Taj Mahal, Hails It as a Timeless Masterpiece

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, accompanied by his wife Sajidha Mohamed, paid a visit to the iconic Taj Mahal on Tuesday morning, where he expressed his admiration for the monument’s unparalleled beauty and architectural brilliance.

Upon arrival at the technical airport of Agra, President Muizzu was welcomed by Uttar Pradesh Minister Yogendra Upadhyay on behalf of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The President and his delegation, which included 60 members comprising Maldives’ defence and tourism ministers, explored the 17th-century marvel, dedicating an hour to the historic site.

In the visitors’ book, President Muizzu wrote, “It’s tough to describe this mausoleum’s beauty as words simply cannot do it justice. This mesmerising intricacy and attention to detail is a testament to love and architectural excellence. This awe-aspiring monument is truly a timeless masterpiece.”

During their visit, the President took a moment to capture a photograph at the famous Diana Seat, with the majestic mausoleum as his backdrop. His curiosity about the Taj Mahal’s historical and architectural aspects showcased his keen interest in the cultural heritage of India.

Due to the VVIP visit, the Taj Mahal was temporarily closed to the public starting at 8 am, with a prior notification issued by Raj Kumar Patel, the superintending archaeologist for the Agra circle of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Ticket sales for general visitors were halted at both the east and west gates at 7 am and resumed at 10 am once the dignitaries had concluded their visit.

This visit by the Maldives President highlights the cultural ties between the two nations and underscores the global significance of the Taj Mahal as a symbol of love and architectural grandeur.
