The solemn procession of Madhavi Raje Scindia’s mortal remains from Delhi to Gwalior has marked a poignant moment for many, as the mother of Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia prepares for her final rites.
On Thursday, Madhavi Raje Scindia’s body was transported from Delhi to Gwalior in a special plane. The sad journey concluded at the Rani Mahal within the Jai Vilas complex, where her family, including Minister Scindia, received her with respect and sorrow.
The 76-year-old’s cremation is scheduled at 5 pm at ‘Amma Maharaj Ki Chhatri,’ a revered site for the erstwhile royal family of Gwalior. People gathered at the airport and along the route, chanting tributes as the ambulance carrying her body passed by. The door of the ambulance was briefly opened to allow people to pay their respects.
Madhavi Raje Scindia’s legacy and connections extended beyond India, with members of the royal family of Nepal and other princely states expected to attend her funeral. Political leaders from both the BJP and Congress are also set to pay their respects.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will join the procession in Gwalior, reflecting the widespread regard for Madhavi Raje Scindia. Her passing, after a prolonged battle with illness, has left a void in the hearts of many who knew her.
Madhavi Raje Scindia, hailing from Nepal’s royal family, married former Union minister Madhavrao Scindia in 1966. Her survivors include her son Jyotiraditya Scindia and daughter Chitrangada Raje Singh.
