Indian Railways Achieves Breakthrough: Vande Bharat Trains to Undergo 14-Minute Cleaning Transformation

Indian Railways is poised to achieve a historic milestone with its groundbreaking “14-minute miracle” cleaning initiative for Vande Bharat Trains. Known for their indigenization and semi-high-speed service, these trains are set to undergo a rapid cleaning transformation that will significantly elevate the standards of train cleanliness.

The Ministry of Railways announced that the “14-minute miracle” scheme, inspired by the swift cleaning procedures witnessed in Japan’s Bullet Trains (which achieve a cleaning time of 7 minutes), will be formally launched on October 1 at Terminal Stations across Indian Railways. This innovative cleaning approach is expected to redefine passenger expectations and enhance the overall railway travel experience.

Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will inaugurate this groundbreaking initiative at the Delhi Cantonment Railway Station, marking a significant leap in train cleanliness standards. More than 32 Vande Bharat trains across the nation will simultaneously adopt this swift cleaning mechanism as part of their daily operations.

Previously, the cleaning process for these trains consumed 3-4 hours, but with the implementation of this initiative, it will be completed within a mere 15 minutes, according to top sources from the Ministry of Railways. Each coach of the Vande Bharat train will be cleaned by a dedicated team of four cleaning staff members who have undergone extensive training programs lasting over a month. These staff members have honed their skills through multiple mock drills, ensuring the seamless execution of the rapid cleaning operation.

This ambitious initiative aligns with the vision of Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who had earlier hinted at a transformation in the cleaning process of India’s premium trains. The Railways aims to extend this efficient cleaning mechanism to all trains once it proves effective and fully functional.

The “14-minute miracle” cleaning scheme aims to elevate the travel experience of millions of passengers who rely on India’s extensive railway network daily. Vande Bharat Trains, initially introduced in February 2019 for the Delhi to Varanasi route, now operate 68 services across the country. This efficiency leap is expected to set new cleanliness standards and enhance the overall railway travel experience for passengers.

As India’s railways continue to innovate and modernize, this initiative reflects a commitment to providing passengers with a world-class travel experience where cleanliness plays a pivotal role.
