The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has made a significant decision to hold the Chartered Accountancy (CA) exams three times a year starting from 2024. This decision was made during the 430th meeting of the ICAI held on March 7, 2024, in New Delhi.
Previously, CA exams were only conducted in the months of May/June and January. However, with the new decision, exams will now also be held in the month of September. The move aims to provide more opportunities for students to appear for the exams and aligns ICAI with global best practices, where the frequency of examinations is higher.
The decision applies to both Intermediate and Foundation courses. The official release by ICAI stated, “It has been decided that in order to facilitate the students, Intermediate and Foundation course examinations will be conducted thrice in a year in the month of January, May/June, and September. Earlier both the examinations were held twice in a year.”
This move is expected to benefit students by reducing the interval between exams from 6 months to 4 months. It will enable students who have completed their study period to appear in the exam without having to wait for an additional 2 months.
In addition, the decision is set to bring relief to nearly 4,36,500 students who have already enrolled for the scheduled examination to be conducted in May/June 2024. The increased frequency of exams will offer them more flexibility and opportunities to excel in their CA journey.
