An FIR was filed against Madhya Pradesh Minister Vijay Shah on Wednesday night in Indore district following his controversial remarks against Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, a senior Indian Army officer. Superintendent of Police (rural) Hitika Vasal confirmed to PTI that the FIR had been registered.
The controversy arose after Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, who has been serving in a prominent role within the Indian Army, participated in press briefings alongside foreign secretary Vikram Misri and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, where they provided updates on Operation Sindoor, India’s military response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Colonel Qureshi has been recognized for her professionalism and contribution to the military, and the minister’s remarks were widely condemned for undermining her position and dignity.
In response to the backlash, Minister Vijay Shah issued a statement expressing regret for his words, acknowledging that they might have hurt people’s sentiments. Shah clarified that if anyone was offended by his comments, he would be willing to apologize repeatedly. He also emphasized his deep respect for Colonel Qureshi, claiming that he holds her in higher regard than his own sister.
