
In a tragic turn of events, a Chhattisgarh police constable and a Maoist insurgent lost their lives in a fierce gunfight between security forces and Maoist rebels in Bastar’s Kanker district. The encounter occurred during an anti-Naxal operation conducted by a joint team of security personnel in the dense forests near Hidur village, under the jurisdiction of Chhotebethiya police station.
The deceased constable, identified as Ramesh Kurethi, was a member of Bastar Fighters, a specialized unit of the state police. Hailing from Kanker district, Constable Kurethi was killed in the exchange of fire with Maoist insurgents. Additionally, the security forces recovered the body of a Maoist rebel along with an AK-47 rifle from the encounter site.
The operation was launched by the Chhattisgarh police based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of senior Maoist cadres in the Hidur forest area. Comprising personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Bastar Fighters, as well as units from the Border Security Force (BSF) and district force, the joint team embarked on the mission to neutralize the Naxal threat.
Despite the loss of life, the gun battle persisted in the dense forest, with security forces engaged in an ongoing operation to root out the remaining insurgents.
