"Deadly Encounter in Chhattisgarh's Abujhmarh: 8 Maoists and 1 Security Personnel Killed"

An intense encounter between security forces and Maoists in Abujhmarh, a hilly forest area spanning Narayanpur, Bijapur, and Dantewada districts of Chhattisgarh, has resulted in the death of at least 8 Maoists and one security personnel. Two others were injured during the operation.

The gun battle unfolded in Narayanpur district over the past two days as security teams from Narayanpur, Kanker, Dantewada, and Kondagaon districts collaborated in an anti-Naxal operation. This operation involved personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), and the 53rd battalion of the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and was initiated on June 12.

Abujhmarh, known for its geographical isolation and dense forests, has long been identified as a stronghold of Maoist activities. The area’s challenging terrain makes it a favored refuge for Maoist groups.

This recent encounter follows a similar incident in Narayanpur where six Maoists were killed by security forces earlier this month. The deceased Maoists were part of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) company no. 6, a significant force within the Maoist hierarchy.

Security forces recovered weapons and explosives during the post-encounter search, including rifles, grenade launcher shells, explosive devices, and other logistical supplies commonly used by Maoist insurgents.

Authorities have intensified operations in the region, targeting known Maoist strongholds as part of efforts to curb insurgent activities and maintain peace and stability in the affected districts.
