The biting cold and thick fog prevailing in Gautam Buddh Nagar have prompted the district administration to take precautionary measures, leading to the temporary closure of schools for students from Classes 1 to 8 until January 6. The decision, in accordance with public welfare, follows an order issued by the District Magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar.
The directive applies to all schools affiliated with various boards operating within the district boundaries. The administration emphasized strict adherence to this measure, citing severe cold and dense fog as the driving factors behind this decision.
This closure echoes similar precautionary steps taken across Uttar Pradesh due to the ongoing cold wave. The district administration in Lucknow also announced the suspension of classes for students in the same grade range until January 6. Prior to this, Varanasi’s district administration had implemented a similar measure, aligning with the prevailing weather conditions, to safeguard students’ well-being.
Dr. Mrityunjay Mohapatra, the Director-General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), shed light on the upcoming weather forecast. He warned of a drop in night temperatures during January 5-11, potentially leading to cold wave conditions in certain parts of central India. Furthermore, he predicted below-normal day temperatures, particularly affecting Madhya Pradesh, the northern parts of Maharashtra, and the southern regions of Uttar Pradesh.
Meanwhile, Delhiites also experienced the brunt of the cold wave, with the minimum temperature recorded at 9°C by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on New Year’s morning. The community has urged local authorities to ensure necessary provisions for the vulnerable populace, especially those seeking shelter in night shelters amid these challenging weather conditions.
As authorities prioritize safety amid the cold wave and dense fog, residents and educational institutions remain vigilant, hoping for improved conditions in the days ahead.
