Class 12 Student Detained for Sending Bomb Threat Emails to 23 Delhi Schools

A Class 12 student has been detained by the Delhi Police for sending a series of bomb threat emails to 23 schools in the national capital, authorities confirmed. Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Delhi, Ankit Chauhan, stated that the student admitted during interrogation to sending the latest threats, adding that he had also sent similar emails in the past.

The police have reported that on Thursday, around 10 educational institutions in Delhi received bomb threats, the latest in a series of similar incidents. In response, the police assured that further details would be shared in a press conference later in the day.

Previous Incidents Linked to School Students

This recent detention comes after it was revealed that at least three previous bomb threat incidents targeting schools were perpetrated by the students themselves. For instance, Venkateshwar Global School received a bomb threat email a day after a blast occurred at the Rohini Prashant Vihar PVR Multiplex on November 28. Upon investigation, it was found that the email was sent by two siblings enrolled in the school who sought to have exams postponed. The siblings confessed during counselling that they had been inspired by previous bomb threat incidents.

Police later declared the threat to Venkateshwar Global School to be a hoax after conducting a thorough check. Additionally, two more schools in Rohini and Paschim Vihar were targeted with bomb threats sent by their own students, all in attempts to close the schools. In these cases, the students were also released after parental warnings.

A Growing Pattern of Bomb Threats

The spate of bomb threats has caused significant disruption to schools in Delhi. In the last month alone, more than 100 schools in the capital were affected by such threats. Investigations revealed that many of these emails were sent using a Virtual Private Network (VPN), which has made tracing the perpetrators challenging.

Since May of this year, over 50 bomb threat emails have targeted various locations, including schools, hospitals, airports, and airline companies in Delhi. Police are continuing their efforts to uncover the individuals behind these threats and prevent further incidents.
