After a decisive victory in the Andhra Pradesh assembly elections, N Chandrababu Naidu is set to assume office as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for the fourth time. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led alliance has secured a commanding lead in 158 out of 175 assembly constituencies, signaling a landslide victory.
Sources confirm that N Chandrababu Naidu will take the oath of office on June 9, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to attend the swearing-in ceremony. This event marks Mr. Naidu’s return to power, having previously served as Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh from 1995 to 2004 and subsequently as the first Chief Minister of the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh following its bifurcation in 2014.
The TDP chief’s resurgence comes after a setback in the 2019 elections, where the YSR Congress Party secured a significant victory. Mr. Naidu’s alliance with the Jana Sena Party (JSP) led by actor-politician Pawan Kalyan and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) played a pivotal role in the electoral triumph.
With a remarkable lead in 131 assembly segments, the TDP has secured a substantial majority on its own. Mr. Naidu, who contested from the Kuppam constituency, has maintained a significant lead, reaffirming his stronghold in the region since 1989.
Additionally, Nara Lokesh, Mr. Naidu’s son and TDP general secretary, is ahead in the Mangalagiri constituency, marking a redemption after a previous defeat in the same segment.
The TDP’s dominance extends to the Lok Sabha constituencies as well, with leads in 16 out of 25 seats. The tripartite alliance, comprising the TDP, JSP, and BJP, is ahead in 21 seats, reflecting a substantial shift in electoral fortunes compared to the 2019 results.
