The incident, which took place on Friday, has left the community shaken and prompted a swift response from BluSmart, the cab aggregator associated with the driver.

The woman and her son had taken the BluSmart ride from Airia Mall in Gurugram to their home in Sector 86. However, as they neared Sector 83, the driver suddenly stopped the vehicle, pulled out a gun, and demanded the woman transfer ₹55,000 to his bank account via a UPI transaction. In addition to taking the money, the driver also kept the woman’s bag, instructed them to leave the car, and sped off, leaving the victims stranded.

The driver, identified as Sonu Singh, was arrested by the police after a rapid investigation. Singh, a resident of Uttar Pradesh who was living as a tenant in Gurugram, has been remanded in police custody. A police officer mentioned that recovery of the stolen amount would be possible after further interrogation of the accused.

BluSmart, in a statement, expressed its deep concern and sorrow over the incident. The company reassured the public that the safety of its passengers is its top priority. Despite having strict safety measures in place, including background checks, face-to-face interviews, driving tests, and facial recognition technology to verify driver identities, the company acknowledged the need for constant vigilance and improvement in safety protocols.
