The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) apprehended four Sri Lankan nationals at Ahmedabad airport on Monday, citing alleged connections with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The incident unfolded just ahead of Ahmedabad’s hosting of the Indian Premier League (IPL) qualifier and eliminator rounds at the Narendra Modi stadium in Motera.
According to officials familiar with the matter, the individuals were taken into custody upon their arrival on Monday morning. An ongoing investigation is being conducted into their suspected ties with the terrorist organization.
The identities of the detained individuals have not been disclosed as of now. However, sources close to the ATS have indicated the recovery of potentially incriminating materials from their possession.
This development raises concerns regarding the presence and activities of terrorist elements, particularly during high-profile events such as sports tournaments. Authorities continue to probe the matter to ascertain the extent of the alleged ISIS connections and any potential threats posed by the arrested individuals.
