Arvind Kejriwal Appoints Atishi to Hoist Tricolour at Independence Day Event from Tihar Jail

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is currently incarcerated in Tihar Jail in connection with corruption and money laundering cases related to the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam, has made arrangements for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations.

In a letter addressed to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, Kejriwal has designated Cabinet Minister Atishi to represent him and hoist the national flag during the city’s Independence Day function on August 15. The announcement was made by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday.

The annual Independence Day event, traditionally held at Chhatrasal Stadium, will proceed with Atishi performing the flag-hoisting duties in place of Kejriwal. Typically, the Chief Minister addresses the gathering, but his current legal predicament has necessitated this substitution.

Kejriwal’s incarceration has cast a shadow over his participation in key public events, but his commitment to the celebrations remains evident through this delegation. The AAP has been vocal about the charges against Kejriwal, asserting that the cases are politically motivated.

The decision to have Atishi step in underscores the continuity of leadership and the ongoing preparations for the significant national occasion despite the Chief Minister’s absence.
