YouTuber Samay Raina and social media influencer Apoorva Mukhija are set to appear before the National Commission for Women (NCW) today for questioning regarding the ongoing controversy surrounding an episode of Raina’s popular show, India’s Got Latent. The episode, which featured podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, has drawn significant backlash due to inappropriate jokes made by the guest, sparking outrage and leading to legal actions.
The NCW summons were issued on February 11 following the filing of a case by Maharashtra Police over the controversial remarks made in the episode. Multiple first information reports (FIRs) were filed in Mumbai and Guwahati, where the content has caused considerable public unrest.
The controversy began when Allahbadia, also known for his YouTube channel BeerBiceps, made comments on the show that were widely deemed offensive. The episode went viral, triggering an outcry across social media platforms. In response, Raina, the host, removed the video from YouTube and expressed regret over the incident, stating, “This has been too much for me to handle. I will cooperate fully with the authorities.”
The NCW investigation includes the involvement of Raina, Mukhija, Allahbadia, comedian Jaspreet Singh, YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, and the producers of India’s Got Latent, Tushar Poojari and Saurabh Bothra, all of whom have been summoned for questioning.
Ranveer Allahbadia has approached the Supreme Court, requesting the consolidation of the multiple FIRs filed against him. In a public statement, he apologized for his remarks and acknowledged the harm caused by his comments, revealing that he has been receiving death threats in light of the controversy.
Apoorva Mukhija, who has already been questioned by the Mumbai Police, has assured authorities that she will cooperate fully with the investigation. Mukhija, known for her bold social media presence, has garnered attention for her willingness to address the matter openly.
