Renowned television actress Rupali Ganguly, celebrated for her roles in popular series such as ‘Anupama’ and ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’, has made headlines by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the third phase of Lok Sabha elections. The event unfolded at the party’s Kolkata headquarters, drawing attention from media and political circles alike.
Ganguly expressed her admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his governance, which motivated her decision to align with the BJP. “Seeing the ‘Mahayagya’ of development around me, I felt that I should also be a part of it,” she remarked, highlighting the development initiatives under PM Modi’s leadership.
In a statement to the media, Ganguly conveyed her aspirations to emulate PM Modi’s dedication to public service. “I wish to follow in the footsteps of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-ji and serve fellow citizens in whichever role I am entrusted with,” she declared, pledging to contribute under the guidance of BJP leaders like Amit Shah.
The event, attended by senior BJP figures including national general secretary Vinod Tawde, also witnessed political commentary. Tawde used the occasion to criticize the Opposition, particularly addressing Samajwadi Party leader Maria Alam’s controversial remarks regarding ‘love jihad’ and electoral strategies.
“The Opposition, which has been spreading lies, has now started a ‘vote jihad’ campaign. This shows they are rattled,” remarked Tawde, highlighting the contentious nature of election rhetoric. He further criticized the purported duplicity in the Opposition’s stance on issues such as OBC reservations for Muslims and electoral strategies like ‘vote jihad’.
