A tragic accident involving a Porsche in Pune has sparked controversy as the Congress party accuses the police of giving preferential treatment to a teenager involved in the incident. Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed shock over the bail conditions set by the Juvenile Justice Board for the accused.
The Congress party in Maharashtra has raised concerns about the treatment of the teenager accused of causing a fatal accident in Pune. Atul Londhe, the chief spokesperson of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), claimed that the accused received special treatment, including being served “pizzas and burgers” while in custody. He demanded strict action against the police officers involved and questioned if political pressure influenced the handling of the case.
Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar denied any external pressure and stated that the police had acted lawfully throughout the case. He mentioned that the police had invoked IPC Section 304 and attempted to try the juvenile as an adult, although the court initially rejected this application. Kumar assured that stringent action would be taken against any police personnel found aiding the teenager directly or indirectly.
The teenager involved in the accident was granted bail by the Juvenile Justice Board, prompting criticism from Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis. He expressed shock over the bail conditions, which reportedly included writing an essay. Fadnavis mentioned that if the Juvenile Justice Board does not review its decision, the police will approach a higher court for further action.
The accident occurred early Sunday morning, resulting in the deaths of two IT professionals, Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa. The release of the accused on bail has stirred public debate regarding the legal process and the treatment of juvenile offenders in such cases.
