A recent scandal has rocked Karnataka politics as a woman filed a police case against Karnataka MP Prajwal Revanna, alleging sexual assault. The First Information Report (FIR) was lodged with the Holenarasipur police station in Hassan district, adding fuel to a controversy surrounding purported obscene videos.
Prajwal Revanna, a Janata Dal (Secular) MP and the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, vehemently denied the allegations, asserting that the circulated videos were morphed. He took proactive steps by filing a police complaint to counter these accusations. Interestingly, amidst the escalating situation, Prajwal Revanna left for Germany the day prior to developments in the case.
The gravity of the situation prompted Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to announce the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to delve into the scandalous videos. This decision was made following a recommendation from the state women’s commission, reflecting the government’s commitment to addressing such serious allegations.
The FIR revealed shocking details, with the survivor alleging multiple instances of sexual abuse spanning from 2019 to 2022. This complaint is slated to be transferred to the newly formed SIT, which is expected to receive more cases as more women come forward to report similar incidents.
Prajwal Revanna’s political affiliations have also come under scrutiny, given his association with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as a candidate in the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), part of the NDA, distanced itself from Prajwal Revanna amid the controversy, emphasizing that the party has no connection to the videos and refraining from commenting on the SIT probe initiated by the state government.
