In a recent development, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused Tihar jail authorities of conspiring against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s well-being. AAP Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj criticized the jail administration, alleging a flip-flop and reiterated the party’s claim of a plan for Kejriwal’s “slow death” in prison.

The controversy stems from a letter shared by AAP today, written by the Director General of Prisons requesting a senior AIIMS doctor for Kejriwal. This move contradicts the jail administration’s assertion of providing adequate medical facilities to Kejriwal in Tihar.

Responding to AAP’s allegations, the jail administration clarified that they consulted a senior doctor from AIIMS via video conferencing at the request of Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal. The consultation concluded that there were no serious concerns about Kejriwal’s health and advised him to continue with prescribed medicines.

AAP Ministers Bharadwaj and Atishi had previously claimed that Kejriwal was being denied insulin and proper medical consultations. Atishi emphasized that Kejriwal had been taking insulin for 12 years and accused the administration of pushing him toward a “slow death” at the BJP’s behest.

However, Tihar authorities maintain that insulin is readily available in the jail dispensary and can be administered to Kejriwal as needed. Medical records from RML Hospital indicate that Kejriwal was not advised insulin during his treatment in Tihar, contrary to AAP’s claims.

Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate in a money-laundering case linked to Delhi’s excise policy. The ED alleged that Kejriwal was consuming high-sugar foods daily, despite having type 2 diabetes, to build a case for medical bail. However, Kejriwal defended his dietary choices in court, stating they were in line with his doctor’s recommendations.
