The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather advisories for several states, warning of heatwave conditions and rainfall predictions for the coming days.
Heatwave Alert: The IMD has alerted multiple states about the likelihood of heatwave conditions persisting till April 20. Areas expected to experience high temperatures include parts of Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Konkan, Saurashtra, Kutch, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Telangana. The department advises precautionary measures such as avoiding heat exposure, wearing light-colored and loose-fitting clothes, covering the head, and using umbrellas or hats. Heatwave conditions are defined as temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius or higher for plains and 30 degrees Celsius or higher for hilly regions.
Rainfall Predictions: In contrast, northern states are expected to receive relief from the heat as the IMD predicts isolated to scattered rains accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in states like Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan from April 18 to April 20. Delhi and neighboring regions may witness cloudy skies and cool winds on April 17, with the possibility of light rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds on April 19.
Heatwave and Rainfall Conditions by Region:
- Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal: Heatwave conditions expected during April 16-20.
- North Konkan, Saurashtra, and Kutch: Heatwave conditions expected on Tuesday and Wednesday.
- Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Telangana: Heatwave conditions expected on Wednesday and Thursday.
- Southern districts of West Bengal: Heatwave conditions till April 20 with temperatures rising above 40 degrees Celsius.
- Northern states: Respite from heat with rain and thunderstorms predicted from April 18 to April 20.
