In a recent development, the planned meeting between Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, along with AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, has been called off by the Tihar Jail administration. The cancellation was attributed to security reasons, with sources indicating that a new meeting time will be decided by prison authorities.
The Tihar Jail administration initially scheduled the meeting between Kejriwal, Mann, and Singh but later revoked permission due to security concerns. This decision underscores the heightened security protocols surrounding Kejriwal’s confinement.
Meanwhile, Arvind Kejriwal took legal action by approaching the Supreme Court on Wednesday, challenging a Delhi High Court order that dismissed his plea against his arrest by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in connection with the Excise policy case.
The Delhi High Court, in its ruling, stated that Kejriwal’s arrest was lawful and that the timing of his arrest should be examined based on legal considerations, not political implications. Despite this, the Aam Aadmi Party expressed optimism about obtaining justice through the Supreme Court.
Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest on March 21 led to his judicial custody until April 15, 2024. The ED alleges that the AAP benefited significantly from proceeds generated in an alleged liquor scam and that Kejriwal was directly involved in formulating the excise policy under scrutiny. The case centers on purported irregularities and money laundering related to the Delhi Excise Policy 2022, which was subsequently annulled.
