
Stand-up comedian and Bigg Boss 17 winner Munawar Faruqui recently shared a selfie on Instagram following his brief detention and subsequent release by the Mumbai Police. The incident occurred after a raid on a hookah bar in south Mumbai, where Munawar was among 14 individuals detained for smoking hookahs.
The raid, conducted by the Social Service branch of the Mumbai police, took place at a hookah parlour in the Bora Bazar area of Fort late Tuesday night, extending into the early hours of Wednesday. During the operation, Munawar Faruqui and others were found smoking hookahs, leading to their detention.
Authorities booked Munawar and others under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, along with IPC sections 283 (danger or obstruction in a public way or line of navigation) and 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others). However, they were later released as the charges were bailable.
In his first post after the incident, Munawar shared a selfie on Instagram Stories, showcasing a smile while dressed in a blue T-shirt and cap inside a room. The Mumbai Police, while acknowledging the bailable nature of the offence, stated that they are investigating the matter further.
Munawar Faruqui gained prominence as a contestant on Bigg Boss 17, where he faced challenges and controversies during his journey in the reality show. Despite hurdles, including allegations made against him, Munawar continues to engage with his audience and remain in the public eye.
