In a shocking development, gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari has alleged being poisoned while in Banda jail, according to statements made by his brother Afzal Ansari. Afzal, who is an MP from Ghazipur, revealed that Mukhtar Ansari claimed to have been given a poisonous substance mixed in his food, leading to a deterioration in his health.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred, as Afzal Ansari mentioned that Mukhtar Ansari had experienced a similar poisoning incident about 40 days ago. The recent poisoning reportedly occurred on March 19 or March 22, resulting in Mukhtar Ansari’s condition worsening. He is currently in the intensive care unit (ICU) but remains conscious.
The Uttar Pradesh prison department issued a statement acknowledging the sudden deterioration in Mukhtar Ansari’s health, stating that he received immediate treatment from the jail doctor after falling in the toilet during the night. Subsequently, a team of doctors was called, and he was referred to the Medical College in Banda under police protection for further treatment.
The medical bulletin from Banda Medical College confirmed Mukhtar Ansari’s admission at 3.55 am with complaints of abdominal pain. The bulletin stated that conservative treatment has commenced, and his condition is currently stable.
Mukhtar Ansari, aged 60, has been incarcerated in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh since 2005 and faces over 60 criminal cases. He has been sentenced in eight cases since September 2022 by various courts in UP and was lodged in Banda jail. His name was also included in the list of 66 gangsters issued by Uttar Pradesh Police last year.
