Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Bharat Tex 2024, a prestigious global textile event, at Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam on Monday, reaffirming the government’s commitment to transform India into a global textile export hub. Addressing attendees, PM Modi emphasized the government’s consistent efforts to enhance the textile sector’s competitiveness and attract foreign investment.

PM Modi underscored India’s ambition to become a “Global Export Hub” and stressed the importance of initiatives like Vocal for Local and Local to Global in promoting indigenous textile products on the international stage. He outlined the government’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) and highlighted the textile sector’s pivotal role in uplifting the economy, particularly for the poor, youth, farmers, and women.

The Prime Minister lauded the significant increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the textile sector, attributing it to the government’s policy reforms and stability. He noted the sector’s impressive growth, with the textile market valuation crossing ₹12 lakh crores, and highlighted the government’s focus on quality control to maintain international standards.

PM Modi also highlighted the empowering role of Khadi in strengthening women’s participation in the industry, emphasizing its contribution to both development and employment. He praised the efforts to enhance skill development in the sector, citing the expansion of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) network and the integration of local weavers and artisans.

Furthermore, PM Modi lauded the launch of ‘Kasturi Cotton’ as a significant step towards establishing India’s unique identity in the global textile market. He highlighted India’s position as a leading producer of cotton, jute, and silk, acknowledging the contributions of millions of farmers engaged in these sectors.

Bharat Tex 2024, hailed as one of the largest-ever global textile events in India, showcases the rich heritage of handloom and handicraft traditions from various states. Partner states like Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, along with supporting partner states like Gujarat, Telangana, and Madhya Pradesh, highlight the diverse textile offerings across the country.

The event serves as a platform for stakeholders, including manufacturers, artisans, designers, and policymakers, to foster collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth in the textile industry. With its focus on promoting India’s craftsmanship, creativity, and innovation, Bharat Tex 2024 reaffirms the country’s status as a global leader in the textile and apparel sector.
