Fourth Farmer Dies During Protests, Union Leader Demands Support for Victim's Family

Amid the ongoing farmers’ agitation at the Khanauri border, another farmer, identified as Darshan Singh (62), has tragically passed away, marking the fourth casualty in the protest. Sarwan Singh Pandher, a prominent farmer leader, confirmed the news on Friday, revealing that Darshan Singh succumbed to a heart attack.

Darshan Singh, hailing from Amargarh village in Bathinda district, had been actively participating in the protest since February 13. Sarwan Singh Pandher emphasized that Darshan Singh’s family deserves compensation similar to that provided to previous martyrs and called for the government to offer a job to a member of the victim’s family.

The recent death comes just days after Shubhkaran Singh lost his life due to an injury sustained at the back of his neck while protesting at the Khanauri border, leading farm leaders to halt talks with the Centre and observe a ‘black Friday’ in his honor.

The farmers’ demands, including a legal guarantee for minimum support price (MSP) for crops and farm debt waiver, remain unmet, despite discussions during the last round of talks. The Union ministers proposed purchasing five crops at MSP for five years through central agencies, a move that has not satisfied the protesting farmers.
