"Kashmir Security Tightened as PM Modi Prepares for Jammu Trip"

Security forces in Kashmir are on high alert as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jammu approaches. Ahead of the scheduled trip, which includes the inauguration of developmental projects and a public rally, security measures have been significantly ramped up across the region. The intensified patrolling and increased deployment of forces at sensitive locations signify the gravity of the security concerns.

A joint security review meeting, held in Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir, further underscored the seriousness of the security arrangements. Led by Kashmir Zone Inspector General of Police, V K Birdi, the meeting brought together senior officers from various security agencies including the police, army, BSF, CRPF, SSB, CISF, as well as state and central intelligence agencies.

The primary objective of the meeting was to comprehensively assess and fortify security measures in anticipation of VVIP visits and other significant events in the Union Territory. Specific emphasis was placed on enhancing vigilance, particularly during night-time, to mitigate potential terrorist threats. The delicate balance between security requirements and the smooth conduct of events was also acknowledged.

A comprehensive briefing during the meeting outlined the security plans devised in preparation for upcoming events. The officers were directed to bolster intelligence gathering and anti-terror operations while minimizing the risk of untoward incidents. Special attention was given to securing critical points such as the National Highway, tunnels, minority pickets, and other vulnerable areas.

Moreover, directives were issued to intensify security measures, including surprise checkpoints and 24×7 patrolling, in both uptown and downtown areas of Srinagar. Entry and exit points of the district received increased security presence to ensure comprehensive coverage. Personnel were briefed to strictly adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) given the heightened security concerns during events.

Border district heads were instructed to maintain strict vigilance along the Line of Control (LoC) and hinterland to prevent potential terror activities. Thorough monitoring of vulnerable areas and prompt action against suspicious activities were emphasized as critical components of the security strategy.

Inspector General Birdi reiterated the importance of collective vigilance and proactive measures to safeguard the safety and security of all residents and visitors to the Kashmir valley. With security forces on high alert and stringent measures in place, the authorities are committed to ensuring a safe environment during the Prime Minister’s visit and beyond.
