Mumbai Police Officer Under Scrutiny for Dancing on Duty Inside Train

A Mumbai police officer, identified as SF Gupta, has come under scrutiny following a viral video showing him engaged in an impromptu dance session with a young woman inside a second-class ladies coach of a Central Railway local train. Gupta, on duty as a home guard ensuring women’s safety during nighttime travel, faced criticism after the video circulated widely on social media, sparking controversy and raising questions about professionalism.

The video, captured on the evening of December 6 between 10:00 p.m. and 10:15 p.m., depicted Gupta initially providing instructions to the woman filming a dance reel. Subsequently, he joined her, participating in the dance routine to the accompaniment of music.

The incident prompted swift action from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) following a tagged notification from the official Divisional Railway Manager’s account, emphasizing the urgency for immediate action against the home guard depicted in the video.

Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, the Government Railway Police (GRP) took prompt measures by filing a formal report against Gupta on December 8. Authorities stressed the prohibition against personnel engaging in photo-taking, video recording, or taking selfies while in uniform and on duty. Gupta was summoned to provide an explanation for his actions in the video.

In response, the GRP Mumbai issued a statement on social media, addressing the incident and confirming steps taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The statement underscored the seriousness of the situation and assured the public that appropriate measures had been initiated against the concerned home guard.

“On 6/12/2023, a video of a home guard dancing in uniform during local train patrolling is going viral. Taking serious notice of the said incident and verifying the truth, appropriate action has been taken against the concerned Home Guard. We are taking care to prevent such incidents from happening in the future,” GRP Mumbai announced.

The incident has sparked conversations about professionalism and conduct while on duty, emphasizing the need for adherence to protocols and maintaining decorum, especially among law enforcement personnel responsible for public safety and security.
