In a devastating incident that unfolded on Sunday evening in Ghaziabad’s Jhandpur locality, a 35-year-old man lost his life after an iron hollow bar, suspected to be filled with gunpowder, exploded. The victim, identified as Afzal Ansari alias Natu, suffered severe injuries, particularly to his legs, leading to excessive bleeding. Despite being rushed to MMG district hospital, Ansari was declared brought dead by the medical staff.
The Sahibabad Assistant Commissioner of Police, Bhaskar Verma, revealed that the incident occurred around 11 pm when Pradeep Kumar, as seen in CCTV footage, allegedly triggered the explosive. The hollow bar’s detonation caused critical injuries to Ansari, who collapsed on the spot.
An FIR has been registered against Pradeep Kumar based on a complaint filed by Ansari’s family, invoking section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). Investigations are underway to determine the circumstances that led to the tragic incident and to locate Pradeep Kumar.
CCTV footage from a nearby camera captured the sequence of events leading up to the explosion. In the video, a group of men is seen in a residential lane, and as Ansari walks away from the group, Pradeep Kumar appears to throw something on the road, resulting in a burst of smoke. Moments later, Ansari collapses.
While some individuals alleged that Ansari may have been tortured, the initial investigation has not substantiated such claims. Efforts are being made to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and to trace Pradeep Kumar for further questioning.
Police officers involved in the case suggested that the hollow bar, filled with gunpowder, might have been locally used as a firecracker. However, the authenticity of the video clip has not been independently verified.
As the community mourns the untimely loss of Afzal Ansari, authorities are committed to unraveling the details of the incident and bringing justice to the victim and his grieving family.
