In an unusual turn of events, a leopard sought refuge inside a residence in Coonoor, Nilgiris district, Tamil Nadu, to escape the noise and chaos caused by Diwali crackers. The wild cat entered the house at 3 a.m. today and has been comfortably resting inside for the past 15 hours, prompting a unique intervention by local forest officials.

Arun, the Deputy Director of Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, reported that the forest officials have taken swift action to ensure the safety of both the leopard and the residents. Three CCTV cameras and an automatic camera have been strategically deployed to monitor the leopard’s movements and activities within the house.

“We hope that the leopard moves out by tonight. We are monitoring the CCTV to keep a close eye on the movements of the large cat,” Arun stated, emphasizing the importance of ensuring a safe return of the leopard to its natural habitat.

The incident highlights the impact of Diwali celebrations on wildlife, particularly on animals sensitive to loud noises. The forest officials are working diligently to create a conducive environment for the leopard to exit the house voluntarily.

Residents in the vicinity have been advised to remain cautious and allow the forest officials to handle the situation. Authorities are urging people to exercise restraint during festive celebrations to avoid distressing wildlife.
