In a tragic incident that unfolded in the early hours of Sunday, two sisters were shot dead in Dr Ambedkar Basti, located in south Delhi’s RK Puram area. The victims, identified as Pinky (30) and Jyoti (29), were residents of Dr Ambedkar Basti, where they lived with their family. The shocking incident has raised concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in the national capital.

According to Manoj C, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West), initial investigations suggest that the assailants had intended to target the victims’ brother but mistakenly ended up shooting the sisters instead. While the exact motive behind the attack is yet to be confirmed, the police suspect that it may be related to a money settlement dispute.

The police received a distress call from the brother of the victims at 4:40 am on Sunday, informing them about the shooting. Authorities immediately rushed to the scene and quickly transferred the critically injured sisters to Safdarjung Hospital. Despite the medical team’s best efforts, Pinky and Jyoti were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

The police have initiated a murder case and are actively exploring various sections of the Indian Penal Code that may be applicable to this heinous crime. As investigations progress, officers will focus on identifying the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.

In the wake of this tragic incident, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed his heartfelt condolences to the grieving family. Kejriwal, however, did not shy away from criticizing the BJP-led central government, which is responsible for law and order in the national capital. He expressed deep concern over the increasing insecurity felt by the people of Delhi, alleging that those in charge of maintaining law and order were instead engaged in a power struggle to control the entire Delhi government.

“The people of Delhi have started feeling very insecure. The people who have to handle the law and order of Delhi, instead of fixing the law and order, they are conspiring to capture the entire Delhi government. Today, if Delhi’s law and order was under AAP government instead of LG, then Delhi would have been safest,” Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi, venting his frustration at the current state of affairs.

This tragic incident underscores the urgent need for improved law and order measures in Delhi. The safety and security of citizens must remain a top priority, and it is crucial for the concerned authorities to take swift and decisive action to curb such incidents and ensure justice for the victims. The incident has also reignited the debate surrounding the division of powers between the central and state governments, prompting a fresh call for a more efficient and collaborative approach to address the security concerns of the people of Delhi.
