PM Modi to Lead International Yoga Day Celebrations at UN Headquarters; Embarks on State Visits to the US and Egypt

Date:

In an announcement made by the Ministry of External Affairs on Friday, it was revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a significant two-nation visit from June 20 to 25. This visit will encompass the United States and Egypt, with the purpose of strengthening bilateral relations and promoting international cooperation.

The official itinerary reveals that Prime Minister Modi’s visit will commence in New York, where he will lead the celebrations of the International Day of Yoga at the United Nations headquarters on June 21. Since its inception in 2014, the International Day of Yoga has evolved into one of the foremost events on the UN’s annual calendar.

Following the Yoga Day celebrations, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Washington DC for a state visit to the United States from June 21 to 23. The visit will begin with a ceremonial welcome at the White House on June 22, where he will engage in a high-level dialogue with President Biden. In honor of the Prime Minister’s visit, President Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden will host a state dinner later that evening.

During his time in the United States, Prime Minister Modi is also scheduled to address a joint sitting of the U.S. Congress, emphasizing the significance of the strategic partnership between the two nations. Additionally, he will attend a luncheon hosted by Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, where he will have the opportunity to engage with CEOs, professionals, and other stakeholders.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit will then proceed to Egypt, reciprocating President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s visit to India in January of the same year. The visit underscores the deep-rooted historical, cultural, and economic ties between India and Egypt. During his stay in Cairo, Prime Minister Modi will meet with members of the Egyptian government, prominent personalities, and the Indian community.

The Ministry of External Affairs expressed that the elevation of relations between India and Egypt to a “Strategic Partnership” was agreed upon during President El-Sisi’s visit to India in January. This visit by Prime Minister Modi will further strengthen these bilateral ties and foster greater cooperation across various sectors.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarks on his international sojourn, his engagements in the United States and Egypt are poised to enhance diplomatic relations, deepen cultural exchanges, and reinforce India’s commitment to global cooperation. These visits provide valuable opportunities for fruitful dialogue and collaboration on issues of mutual interest, thus paving the way for stronger partnerships between nations.
