Ex-Railway Employee Attacks CBI Officer with Bow and Arrow in 32-Year-Old Revenge Plot

Ex-Railway Worker Attacks CBI Officer with Bow and Arrow in Lucknow, Cites 1993 Dismissal as Motive

A dramatic act of revenge unfolded outside the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office in Uttar Pradesh’s capital on Friday when a 65-year-old former railway employee attacked a CBI Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) with a bow and arrow, police said on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Dinesh Murmu, a resident of Munger district in Bihar, allegedly targeted ASI Virendra Singh, 55, who had investigated a corruption case in the Railways back in 1993. Following the probe, Murmu was dismissed from his position as a railway gangman, a development that reportedly triggered a long-standing grudge.

According to the Hazratganj police, the attack took place outside the CBI office on Naval Kishore Marg. SHO Vikram Singh stated that ASI Singh sustained a five-centimetre deep injury to his chest and is currently undergoing treatment in Lucknow. His condition is stable.

“The accused had been nursing a grudge against the officer since his dismissal in 1993. He used a bow and arrow in the attack, which he appeared to have planned as a form of personal revenge,” SHO Singh told the media.

Murmu has been arrested and booked under charges of attempt to murder as per the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He will be sent to jail after completion of legal procedures, police confirmed.

Repeat Offender with History of Violence

This is not the first time Murmu has exhibited violent behavior. In 2005, he reportedly traveled to Delhi to confront another CBI officer and ended up attacking a policeman, for which he was jailed. Again in 2015, he was arrested following a scuffle with a Government Railway Police (GRP) jawan at Jaunpur railway station, resulting in a prison term of nearly three and a half years.

Authorities are now investigating whether Murmu had planned similar attacks on other officials involved in his past.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of investigative officers and the long-term repercussions of unresolved grievances against law enforcement personnel.
