
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met Princess Astrid of Belgium, expressing appreciation for her initiative in leading a high-level economic mission to India. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in key sectors such as trade, technology, defence, agriculture, life sciences, innovation, and academic exchanges.
Economic Mission to Boost Trade Ties
Princess Astrid is heading a 300-member Belgian economic delegation aimed at enhancing trade and investment collaboration between the two nations. PM Modi acknowledged her efforts and expressed optimism about unlocking “limitless opportunities” through new partnerships.
“Pleased to meet HRH Princess Astrid of Belgium. Deeply appreciate her initiative to lead a 300-member Economic Mission to India,” PM Modi said on X (formerly Twitter).
“Look forward to unlocking limitless opportunities for our people through new partnerships in trade, technology, defence, agriculture, life sciences, innovation, skilling, and academic exchanges,” he added.
Growing India-Belgium Relations
India and Belgium have enjoyed expanding bilateral ties, with trade and investment being a primary focus. Belgium is India’s 14th largest export destination and 16th largest importer. Outside the European Union, India ranks as Belgium’s seventh largest export market and sixth largest trade partner.
This visit by Princess Astrid highlights Belgium’s commitment to strengthening economic relations with India, building on their strong trade partnership and exploring new avenues for collaboration across various sectors.
