4-Year-Old Boy Fatally Struck by Speeding Car in Mumbai, Teen Driver Arrested

In a tragic incident near Ambedkar College in Mumbai’s Wadala area, a four-year-old boy, Ayush Laxman Kinvade, lost his life after being hit by a speeding Hyundai Creta driven by a 19-year-old, identified as Sandeep Gole. The police reported that Ayush’s family resides on the footpath, and his father works as a laborer.

The teenager, a resident of Vile Parle, has been arrested, and further investigations are underway to determine the circumstances of the accident.

Recent Accidents Highlight Road Safety Concerns

This heartbreaking incident follows a devastating crash involving a Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) electric bus in Kurla on December 9. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, resulting in seven fatalities, 42 injuries, and damage to over 20 vehicles. The crash, captured on CCTV, has raised alarm over public transport safety.

Alarming Road Accident Statistics

According to a report released by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Maharashtra ranks among the states with the highest number of road accidents in the past five years. Between 2018 and 2022, India recorded over 7 lakh fatalities in road accidents, with Uttar Pradesh leading the count at 1,08,882 deaths. Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra followed with 84,316 and 66,370 fatalities, respectively.

Growing Need for Road Safety Measures

The incidents highlight the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, better driver education, and public awareness campaigns to address reckless driving and improve pedestrian safety.
