In a groundbreaking achievement, India successfully test-fired a long-range hypersonic missile from the APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hailed the event as a “historic moment” that positions India among a select group of nations capable of developing advanced hypersonic technology.
The missile test was conducted on Saturday, according to official sources. Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Mr. Singh celebrated the achievement, stating, “India has achieved a major milestone by successfully conducting the flight trial of a long-range hypersonic missile. This significant achievement has placed our country in the group of select nations with the capabilities of such critical and advanced military technologies.”
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), along with the armed forces and industry partners, played a crucial role in the development and execution of the missile test. Congratulating the teams involved, Mr. Singh called their efforts “stupendous.”
This technological breakthrough is seen as a major step forward in India’s defense capabilities. Hypersonic missiles can travel at speeds exceeding Mach 5, making them extremely difficult to intercept and a critical asset in modern military strategy.
