Security Forces Eliminate Three Terrorists in 27-Hour Operation in J&K’s Akhnoor

A 27-hour-long operation by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Akhnoor sector led to the elimination of three terrorists responsible for attacking an Army convoy near the Line of Control (LoC). The encounter, which began Monday when terrorists fired at an ambulance within the convoy, concluded early Tuesday with the neutralization of all three attackers.

The joint operation involved the Indian Army, J&K Police, and National Security Guard (NSG) commandos, with support from BMP-II infantry combat vehicles, helicopters, and drones. After intense exchanges on Monday, one terrorist was killed by evening. Security forces, backed by air support, resumed their offensive around 7 a.m. Tuesday, engaging in a final assault near the Assan temple in Jogwan village, where the remaining two terrorists were neutralized within two hours.

A tragic casualty in the operation was Phantom, a four-year-old Belgian Malinois service dog, who bravely drew enemy fire, allowing soldiers to advance. Despite sustaining injuries, Phantom’s actions were instrumental in the operation’s success.

The Army and police forces hailed the successful operation as a significant step in maintaining security in the LoC region. Officials expressed their commitment to countering terrorism in the area and paid tribute to Phantom’s courage and sacrifice.
