Delhi Police Constable Fatally Chased, Dragged, and Killed: Report

Date:

A 30-year-old Delhi Police constable, Sandeep Malik, was tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident early Sunday morning in Nangloi, west Delhi. The incident unfolded around 2:15 AM when Malik, who was on routine patrol dressed in civilian clothes, confronted two men drinking in their parked car at a railway yard parking lot. After asking them to leave, an argument ensued, leading to a deadly confrontation.

According to police reports, the two men, identified as Rajnish and Dharmender, allegedly chased Malik in their car after the altercation. Witnesses state that they intentionally struck Malik’s motorcycle, dragging him for over 30 feet before crushing him against a stationary vehicle. Eyewitnesses and CCTV footage confirmed that the attack was premeditated and occurred without provocation.

An FIR has been filed for murder, with Rajnish arrested shortly after the incident. Police also seized the car involved in the crime, along with a liquor bottle and packets of chips found inside. The motive behind the attack is under investigation, with police suggesting that the suspects were angered after Malik stopped them from drinking in their vehicle. However, conflicting information has emerged, as an initial police diary entry indicated the presence of a liquor supplier, Jangra, who allegedly pressured Malik to “get work done,” raising questions about a possible organized crime connection.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the police force and the community. Sandeep Malik, who was patrolling due to a rise in theft cases, was reportedly well-regarded among his colleagues. Despite being rushed to two hospitals, he succumbed to his injuries. His body was subsequently handed over to his family after an autopsy.

The Delhi Police have emphasized that they will pursue justice for Malik, asserting that such acts of violence against law enforcement officials will not be tolerated. As investigations continue, authorities are calling for heightened safety measures for police personnel on patrol.
