Udaipur Knife Attack: 15-Year-Old Boy Dies, Sparking Communal Violence and Heavy Security Measures

In a tragic incident in Udaipur, a 15-year-old boy who was stabbed by a fellow student has succumbed to his injuries after a four-day battle for survival. The boy’s death has led to heightened security measures in the city, with mobile internet services suspended and significant disruptions due to ongoing unrest.

The victim, identified as Devraj, was attacked outside his school on Friday. Just hours before the attack, his sister had tied a rakhi on his wrist at the hospital in celebration of Raksha Bandhan, a poignant detail that has added to the emotional weight of the tragedy, according to Udaipur collector Arvind Poswal.

Following the boy’s death, Udaipur has been gripped by communal violence. Protests erupted as right-wing groups took to the streets, setting vehicles on fire and vandalizing shops. In response to the unrest, the district administration demolished the accused student’s family home, which was reportedly built on forest land, further inflaming tensions.

The accused student has been detained, and his father has been arrested. The violent reactions included mob attacks on cars, stone-pelting, and damage to a shopping mall. In light of the escalating violence, markets in key areas such as Bapu Bazar, Hathipole, and Chetak Circle were shut down, and additional police forces have been deployed.

Authorities have responded by closing all government and private schools in Udaipur until further notice and imposing prohibitory orders to prevent public gatherings. The situation remains under close watch as efforts continue to restore peace and order in the affected areas.
