“Indian Navy’s Sea King Helicopter Conducts Dramatic Rescue of Seriously Injured Chinese Sailor”

Date:

The Indian Navy has successfully executed a complex rescue operation, airlifting a critically injured Chinese sailor from a bulk carrier approximately 370 kilometers off the coast of Mumbai. The operation, conducted under challenging weather conditions, highlights the Indian Navy’s commitment to maritime rescue efforts.

On Tuesday night, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai received an urgent distress call from the bulk carrier Zhong Shan Men. The ship reported that a 51-year-old Chinese mariner had suffered severe blood loss and required immediate evacuation.

In response, the Indian Navy deployed a Sea King helicopter from the Indian Navy Air Station Shikra at 5:50 AM on Wednesday. The rescue operation faced several obstacles, including winds exceeding 45 knots and heavy rolling of the ship, which complicated the extraction process. Additionally, the absence of a continuous deck on the ship further increased the difficulty of the mission.

Despite these challenges, the Sea King helicopter successfully airlifted the injured sailor from the bridge wing of the vessel. The patient was then transported back to the air station and subsequently transferred to a hospital for further medical treatment.
