In a significant development in the murder case involving actor Darshan Thogudeepa, four accused individuals linked to the killing of Renuka Swamy, a man allegedly involved in sending obscene messages to Kannada actor Pavithra Gowda, were taken to the crime scene in Bengaluru. The 33-year-old Mr. Swamy was found dead shortly after sending these messages.
The police conducted a ‘spot inquest’ with the accused present, focusing on gathering evidence and understanding the circumstances surrounding the murder. While Darshan Thoogudeppa, another popular Kannada actor, was detained in connection with the case, he was not taken to the probable crime scene. However, authorities are planning to reconstruct the crime scene and question the accused about the disposal of the body.
This development follows the arrest and questioning of 13 individuals, including Pavithra Gowda, in relation to the matter. Mr. Swamy, who worked for a pharmacy company, allegedly posted inappropriate content about Ms. Gowda on social media, leading to a series of events culminating in his tragic death.
The police were alerted to the situation when residents reported seeing stray dogs dragging a body out of a drain. The involvement of Darshan Thogudeepa in the case has raised questions, although officials have clarified that they are investigating his possible connection but have not yet determined direct involvement.
Regarding Darshan’s status and not being taken to the crime scene, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara emphasized that the law applies equally to everyone, and unless proven guilty, certain procedures may not be necessary.
Meanwhile, outside the Annapoorneshwari Police Station, where Darshan and other suspects are in custody, a large crowd gathered. Police had to resort to mild measures to disperse the crowd.
Darshan Thogudeepa, known as the ‘Challenger Star’ among his fans, has had a notable career in Kannada cinema, with roles in films like ‘Majestic’ (2002), ‘Anatharu’ (2007), ‘Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna’ (2012), and ‘Kaatera’ (2023). However, he has also faced controversies, including past allegations of domestic abuse.
The family of Renuka Swamy is understandably distraught, seeking justice for their loss. “He was my only son. I spoke to him just on Saturday. I want justice,” expressed his father Srinivasaiah.
