Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, during his ongoing visit to Japan, has sought financial assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to support a series of ambitious urban infrastructure projects, including the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail and the rejuvenation of the Musi River.
In a high-level meeting with JICA Senior Vice President Shohei Hara and other top executives in Tokyo, Reddy highlighted the scale and significance of Telangana’s urban transformation agenda. The proposed second phase of the Hyderabad Metro is estimated to cost ₹24,269 crore, with the Telangana government seeking JICA’s support for a ₹11,693 crore loan—nearly 48% of the total cost. The CM stressed that the state is adhering strictly to India’s foreign debt funding norms.
Alongside the Metro expansion, Reddy pitched the Musi River rejuvenation and development of new radial roads linking Hyderabad’s Outer and Regional Ring Roads (ORR & RRR) as key projects deserving of JICA support. He emphasized his vision of transforming Hyderabad into a global city on par with Tokyo and New York.
During the meeting, JICA expressed interest and advised the Telangana government to actively pursue approvals from the central government to facilitate JICA’s support for these transformative projects.
