In a tense and troubling development, three children and three women have gone missing in the Jiribam district of Manipur following an intense encounter between suspected Kuki insurgents and Indian security forces. The clash, which occurred near the border with Assam, has raised concerns over the safety of civilians and security in the area.
According to the Manipur Police, 10 militants were killed in the encounter, and it was revealed that these individuals were heavily armed, indicating their potential to create significant unrest in the region. The police further stated that the insurgents had enough firepower to escalate tensions in Jiribam.
The Manipur Police held a press conference earlier today, providing an update on the situation. “Security forces have launched a full-scale operation to search for the missing individuals. We are actively engaging Assam Rifles, Border Security Force, and the Central Reserve Police Force to aid in this operation. We will retaliate if fired upon,” said a senior police officer from Manipur, speaking from the state capital, Imphal.
In addition to the missing women and children, the police confirmed that 13 internally displaced people had been reported missing since yesterday. While two bodies have been found, five people have been located, and six individuals remain unaccounted for.
The police and security forces have pledged to continue their search efforts, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation. Local residents are urged to stay alert as tensions in the region remain high, and security forces prepare for further operations.
The encounter and subsequent search for the missing individuals have added to the ongoing challenges in the state, where insurgent activities have escalated in recent months. The authorities are working to ensure the safety of civilians while addressing the growing security concerns in the region.
