Businessman Raj Kundra issued his first public statement following a raid by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at his residence and offices on Friday. Addressing media reports that linked his wife, actor Shilpa Shetty, to the case, Kundra firmly requested that her name not be dragged into unrelated matters.
Kundra’s Statement
Taking to Instagram Stories on Saturday, Kundra wrote:
“To whom it may concern, While the media seems to have a flair for drama, let’s set the record straight: I’m fully complying with the ongoing investigation that has been unfolding for the last four years. As for the claims of ‘associates’, ‘pornography’ and ‘money laundering’, let’s just say that no amount of sensationalism will cloud the truth, in the end, justice will prevail!”
He continued, “A note to the media: It’s unacceptable to repeatedly drag my wife’s name into unrelated matters. Please respect the boundaries.!!! #ED.”
ED Raids and Allegations
The ED conducted searches at approximately 15 locations in Mumbai and parts of Uttar Pradesh as part of a money laundering probe tied to the alleged distribution of pornographic and adult films. The premises raided included Kundra’s home and office. The businessman was also questioned by authorities during the operation.
Shilpa Shetty’s Response
Shilpa Shetty’s lawyer, Advocate Prashant Patil, clarified that the actor is not involved in the investigation.
“There have been reports in the media saying that my client Mrs. Shilpa Shetty Kundra has been raided by the Enforcement Directorate. These reports are not true and are misleading. She has nothing to do with any offence of whatsoever nature. The investigation pertains to Mr. Raj Kundra, who is cooperating to bring the truth to light,” Patil stated.
The lawyer also urged media outlets to avoid using Shilpa Shetty’s images or videos in relation to the case, warning that legal action could be taken against irresponsible reporting.
Prior Allegations
This is not the first time Raj Kundra has faced scrutiny. Earlier this year, the ED attached assets worth ₹98 crore belonging to Kundra and Shetty in connection with a cryptocurrency case. However, the Bombay High Court later granted the couple relief against the attachment order.
In 2021, Kundra denied any evidence linking him to the app ‘Hotshots,’ which was allegedly used in a pornographic film racket investigated by the Mumbai Police.
Shilpa Shetty’s Position
Despite the ongoing investigations, Shilpa Shetty has consistently distanced herself from the allegations. Her legal team emphasized her commitment to maintaining her reputation and highlighted her lack of involvement in Kundra’s business dealings.
As the investigation unfolds, Kundra reiterated his belief in justice and urged the media to refrain from sensationalism.
