In a tragic incident in Uttar Pradesh, a three-storey house collapsed in Meerut’s Zakir Nagar area on Saturday evening, resulting in the deaths of at least nine family members. The building, which housed a dairy and over two dozen buffaloes, crumbled around 5:15 p.m. local time.
Emergency services, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), fire brigade, and police, quickly launched a rescue operation. As of now, the operation has been ongoing for over 15 hours. Initially, fifteen people were trapped in the wreckage; eleven were rescued, but nine of them succumbed to their injuries. The deceased have been identified as Sajid (40), his daughter Saniya (15), son Saqib (11), Simra (1.5 years), Reeza (7), Naffo (63), Farhana (20), Alisa (18), and Aliya (6).
The operation has been closely monitored by senior officials, including Meerut Zone Additional Director General of Police D.K. Thakur, Divisional Commissioner Selva Kumari J, Inspector General of Police Nachiketa Jha, and Senior Superintendent of Police Vipin Tada.
