A major fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office located in the Kaiser-I-Hind building in Mumbai’s Ballard Estate area. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties have been reported, according to civic officials.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade received an emergency call regarding the blaze at around 2:31 am. The fire was reported on the fourth floor of the five-storey Kaiser-I-Hind building, which is situated near the Grand Hotel on Currimbhoy Road and houses the ED’s regional office.
Firefighting teams quickly rushed to the scene and began operations. By 3:30 am, the fire was escalated to a Level-II category, classifying it as a major incident. Despite the intensity of the flames, swift response from the fire department helped prevent the fire from spreading to other floors.
A total of eight fire engines, six jumbo water tankers, an aerial water tower tender, a breathing apparatus van, a rescue van, a quick response vehicle, and an ambulance from the 108 emergency service were deployed to the site to tackle the situation.
As of now, the cause of the fire remains unknown. Fire brigade and forensic teams are expected to conduct a detailed investigation once the area is fully secured and cooled down.
The Enforcement Directorate has not yet issued an official statement regarding any potential loss of documents or damage to office infrastructure.
