Boby Chemmanur, a well-known businessman from Kerala, was detained by authorities after Malayalam actress Honey Rose filed a sexual harassment complaint against him. Chemmanur, who is the chairman of the Chemmanur Group, a prominent jewellery business conglomerate, was taken into custody by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) from Wayanad, where he was located.
The arrest followed the registration of a case under non-bailable sections after the actor accused him of making “repeated sexually colored” remarks. The actress, who gained fame for her role in the 2012 film Trivandrum Lodge, initially spoke out about the harassment on social media, but did not name Chemmanur at the time. She had shared how she faced continuous harassment and cyberattacks, leading to numerous arrests by the police.
In a statement, Honey Rose emphasized that while she had attempted to ignore the offensive comments in the past, she decided to take legal action after Chemmanur’s actions disrupted her family’s peace. She also added that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had personally assured her of strong action regarding the incident.
The harassment allegedly occurred around four months ago, but Rose only recently approached the police with her complaint. The police action comes after Chemmanur’s involvement in high-profile events, including his role in bringing football legend Diego Maradona to Kerala in 2012.
Rose’s legal action has prompted widespread discussions, with many supporting her stance and calling for justice. The case has also highlighted the issue of harassment within the entertainment industry and sparked a larger conversation about accountability for individuals in positions of power.
Chemmanur’s detention and the ongoing investigation have brought attention to the need for stricter measures to prevent harassment and ensure the safety and well-being of women in both professional and personal spheres.
As the investigation progresses, authorities are expected to look into the details of the allegations while Honey Rose’s legal team remains hopeful for a fair and thorough process.
